Nick's Bachelor Blog (People)
My final date with Vanessa turned out to be the most significant date of my life. Sometimes no matter how strong your imagination is and how many days you spend picturing a life with a woman, she turns out to be so amazing that only being there with her in the moment, holding her in your arms, can you find the truth in your heart.

We were lucky enough to get a bunch of Nick’s family to come all the way to Rovaniemi to meet the two women he was falling in love with. Chris and Mary and the bunch came a long way and opened up their lives and their hearts to both Raven and Vanessa. This family has been through a lot. They have 11 children and somehow still manage to keep their family together, so I think their advice and consult is something truly worthwhile.

I realize that for the façade of this show the final two women are meant to appear neck-in-neck until the very end. I also realize that the lead is meant to make his decision sound like a last-second epiphany in an attempt to not appear cruel. But what I would love to see is a season where the lead just said, “I do have a love for you, but I simply can’t live without so-and-so. And I have known this for weeks now, but the format of this show and my contractual obligation to it has forced me to keep you in the dark and wait until the very end to break it off.” Okay, so maybe not verbatim, but you get the gist of how refreshing that would be. It felt like a wasted opportunity to have Nick of all people (the contestant famous for being runner-up twice!) not address how he now understands the position of the lead and that it pains him to do to someone else what was done to him twice.

I think most couples go on ATFR and act like everything is all perfect and easy. I know I acted that way when I was on the show because I wanted people to believe in my love and relationship at the time. But it’s NOT easy. It’s hard to watch the show back when you’re engaged. And Vanessa was just being honest about that. And I’m sure she called Nick out and held him accountable for what happened on the show. Yes, she signed up to date him while he dated other women at the same time, but that doesn’t mean she can’t question him and have concerns about what happened and the feelings he had for the other women. Wouldn’t most of you question a man if he broke up with a women and propose to you an hour later?
I’m actually super concerned about what their life is going to be like from here on out … like, I don’t want her to move to the states and quit her job … and I don’t want her to be far away from her family and I don’t want Nick to be on Dancing with the Stars just as they’re beginning their relationship.

We saw so many tension filled moments between Nick and Vanessa, but this proposal made me feel like we missed seeing so much of what was clearly a very romantic relationship blossoming as the season played out. When I spoke with Alexis and Jasmine recently, they said it was obvious when Vanessa was in the room because all of Nick's attention would be on her. He looked at her differently, they said. These are the kinds of thing that don't make TV time because it would make for too obvious how things ended up.

It’s tempting for Bachelor(ette) contestants to drink our own Kool-Aid. Inevitably with Bachelor success comes more attention. Instagram and Twitter numbers are sky-rocketing and fans are throwing adoration at you incessantly with phrases like, “Favorite couple of all time” and “You are my life goals” etc. Mix that with magazine covers, interviews, the world asking for pictures, and it’s easy to feel like you’re a star. On one level, that’s definitely true, but, on another level, you did very little except subject yourself to a “journey” for love and “be yourself” on camera. No special skills, no talent, just being on a show… or four.
As reality TV people, we have to remember that the reason fans like us is because we're just us, and we are quickly replaced by the next round of contestants and engagements. There is nothing about this Bachelor universe that lasts... except love and friendships (and sometimes not even the love). Very few people remember contestants from 10 seasons ago... shoot, even two seasons ago.

With that, Nick leads her outside to the SUV — without even giving her back her wrap, I might add — and they part with a tearful hug. Raven, steel magnolia that we know her to be, is tearful but composed in her exit interview. “I wish more than anything that I could find love, but I just don’t even think that it’s possible,” she says softly. “So why even look for something that’s, like, not possible?” There, there, Raven — anything is possible in Paradise. We’ll see you there in a few months.

Vanessa and Nick have one final date where they ride horses on a Lapland safari while Santa Claus hides in the trees. This is not a bit. This actually happened. They ride up to a cabin deep in the woods and they meet Santa Claus. Let me rephrase that: Two grown-ass adults have to pretend that a Finnish actor hired by ABC producers is actually Santa Claus and accept gifts from him. He gives them a plaque with their Finnish names: Nickelodeon and Venmo.

There’s the old Jump and Straddle (trademark pending) again. I’m beginning to think that this is a part of the contract. Here’s hoping Nick gets a gift certificate to a chiropractor in his swag bag from Jimmy Kimmel.

During Vanessa’s interview with Chris, she tells us that she’s in love but that she and Nick fight a lot. The way she talks about their relationship makes it seem like I could get married before Nick does. And I’m single AF.
Reality Steve (SPOILERS!)
Yes, I saw during the proposal to Vanessa the horrible editing job they did where one scene she had full lipstick on, and the next scene she didn’t. My guess would be that lipstick smeared so they re-shot some of the kissing scenes and just did butcher job on the edit that didn’t take that into account.
Nick then does something that literally every girl has dreamed of seeing on a date and reveals that there have been puppies here the whole time. Why Raven didn’t just take the puppies and bolt at that moment I’ll seriously never know, but instead she spends her final moments letting Nick know that she, unlike Vanessa, is a U.S. citizen with no outstanding Sunday commitments and is totally DTGE—Down To Get Engaged.
This relationship will never survive Dancing with the Stars. Raven would have been happy to cheer Nick on from the sidelines, ice his butt, and massage his sore calves every night after he got home from rehearsal. Vanessa, on the other hand, will be two bottles of malbec deep and will chastise him for not making her feel special.
