Rachel's Bachelorette Blog (People)
After the monastery, I knew what I needed to do, but I still decided I needed to sit down with Peter and talk. We had 24 hours and I needed answers. What you didn’t see is that the conversation we had lasted three hours! He told me he was not ready to get engaged but he was in love with me. Then he said he would give me a ring if it’s what I wanted. But that’s not how marriage is supposed to work. An engagement shouldn’t be a favor — a ride to the airport is a favor.

Obviously we did things a little different last night and took the opportunity to have Rachel talk to Eric and Peter right after we saw them go home, rather than wait until After the Final Rose to talk to everyone. As we saw, it created a more real and raw opportunity for all of them to really talk about their feelings. The conversation between Peter and Rachel was obviously still very raw and there were a lot of unresolved emotions right under the surface.

This was my favorite Bachelorette season in a long time. As with many Bachelorettes, Rachel is beautiful and charming. But what I love the most is her is her overriding pragmatism. You could feel her calculating the long-term into her every decision (I laughed when she joked about grilling the guys about their health insurance and credit scores), painfully aware that the Bachelor bubble is temporary. Also, perhaps because I’m also a woman in my early 30s, I felt for Rachel’s needs. The life trajectory needs, of course, but additionally the traits she needed in a partner: self assuredness and unflappable confidence, both in himself and in them as a couple.

For now, Rachel and Bryan say their future consists of living a normal life — getting coffee, walking Copper, begging their families to accept that this is really happening, etc.
So … good luck, you two. Bryan may not be the guy that I (or a whole lot of Bachelorette viewers) wanted Rachel to end up with, but I hope it works out for her. (And when it doesn’t, I hope she finds a nice guy in the real world and lives happily ever after.)

Listen, I was ready for Rachel to pick Bryan and it made a certain sense, but him being the last one standing takes all the fun out of it. Rachel gives a speech about how she always goes for the exciting, complicated guy and she loves gambling on that excitement, but she’s not going to do that. Sooooooo … she’s going to pick Bryan. [RuPaul’s Drag Race “shade” sound effect.] He gets down on one knee. She squeals and says, “I can’t! I can’t!” He says, “Will you be my reina forever and marry me?” and she says, “Yes! So pretty! Give it to me! It’s so pretty!”
That is … alarming. There’s no romance or even warmth in their proposal. I’m not engaged, but I’m pretty sure my first reaction wouldn’t be, “Give it to me” as I reach out for the ring. On the after-the-episode interview, Bryan re-proposed and I rolled my eyes so hard I momentarily became the Three-Eyed Raven and saw Hodor’s childhood.
I Hate Green Beans by Lincee Ray
Rachel hands him the forgo card, a legit old timey key, and smiles as Bryan pretends to contemplate if he wants to spend the night with her. He calls his mom to let her know that he’s about to put his phone on airplane mode and then escorts Rachel to a room with a real door and a bathroom the same square footage as Peter’s entire fantasy suite.
“I’m living my best life.” — Rachel, trying to choke down vomit while thinking about her future answering 100 phone calls a day from Bryan's mom and paying for cheek maintenance with her lawyer’s salary.
THIS IS SO UNCOMFORTABLE.
